Librarians will survey Roanoke College users and monitor resource use to ascertain needs and evaluate services for resources held by the library or requested by its faculty and students. Collection gaps and strengths are assessed on a continuing basis. Criteria for assessment include the following:
- Requirements for accreditation
- New programs approved
- Interlibrary loan requests
- Combined historical use of print journals and full-text downloads of electronic journals
- Circulation statistics for audiovisual resources and monographs
- The number of full-text downloads (where appropriate) or sessions (e.g. streaming media) for aggregator databases
- Inflation rates
- Cost / use
- Use of shared collection resources
- Value of demand driven acquisitions models over traditional acquisition methods.
