How to find books at Fintel Library

TO LOCATE BOOKS AND MEDIA

Select the BOOKS/FILMS scope in the search box

  • Search by keyword is the default setting.
  • After you get your results, click the Advanced Search link to the right to use more keywords and limit search by material type.
  • Link on the call number to browse the stacks virtually.
  • Books may be requested from Hollins through the link in the catalog. You must be signed in to request a book from Hollins. Items requested by 10:30 am will be available for pickup at Fintel after 1:30 pm Monday through Friday.

Once you have the call number for the book you would like to find, do you know how to find it in our library? Our circulating collection (books you can check out) can be found on the 2nd and 3rd floors. Floor 2 houses call numbers A-PZ, and Floor 3 houses Q-Z.

Not sure how to read a call number? The College of Staten Island has a guide that explains Library of Congress classification. You can access it here.

Requesting books from Hollins

Did you know that you can request items from Hollins University through our shared catalog and have them delivered to Fintel Library for you to pick up?

If you see an item in our catalog that is located at Hollins and is available for check out, then click on the Request icon at the top of the page, or the check mark symbol when viewing a list of records.

Once you clicked the Request icon, you will be prompted for your Roanoke College name and ID number (that's the number on your card).

If you request the item before 10:30a.m. on a weekday then that item will be delivered to Fintel Library that afternoon.

If you request the item after 10:30a.m. on a weekday then the item will be delivered to Fintel Library the next weekday.

You will receive an email when the item arrives stating that you will need to pick it up at the Lending Services desk.

Please contact us if you have any questions.
