Roanoke College is a selective depository library for U.S. federal documents. The college's Bittle Memorial Library opened in 1879 and RC was designated a depository library by U.S. Congressman John Warwick Daniel in 1886. The first "library custodian" was Professor Luther A. Fox (the youngest professor). Most federal documents received by Fintel Library are held online only and are freely available in the Fintel Library Catalog. Physical resources in the library's collections are also found by searching the Fintel Library Catalog. Some of the print & microfiche documents are arranged by a special documents numbering system. [see "How to Read Government Document Numbers" for help.] For federal documents not received by Fintel Library, users may try searching government information gateways (See: listing below). Or, feel free to schedule a research appointment with a librarian for further assistance. The following list suggests the best sites to find government information available online for federal, state, international, and foreign levels of government.
