Native American Heritage Month

About Native American Heritage Month

Roanoke - from the Native American word Rawrenock

Meaning = White beads of low value made from shells, formerly used for ornaments and currency by Native Americans of colonial Virginia.

Roanoke College recognizes and celebrates the history and heritage of those who were here before colonization. From the pre-colonial natives, to European-Native interactions, to Native American literature and folklore, to current issues and controversies.
